"Hi Mom, I love you." Words are such a gift,
for they surpass all other things to give the heart a lift.
But it’s all in how you use them, and timing is so key,
for they can turn a tearful thought to one of smiling glee.
You'll never know when you were born
how proud she was of you,
that wrinkled skin, those bony knees,
your color almost blue.
To her you were the prettiest of all the babies there,
and she could tell just by your yell,
when you needed care.
A tear to dry when you were young
or your first day of school,
the time you tried to run away,
or the hair you thought was cool.
The many nights that she stayed up
till you were safely home,
and worried till she heard the door,
or talked to you by phone.
As years moved on, so did you
with the memories left behind,
like picture books they’re closed for now,
but waiting in the mind.
Those good times past can be recalled,
with just a word or two,
so take the time to say again,
"Hi Mom, I love you".
