Each spring, the birds become silent during hours of
rain and thunder. They nest undisturbed until the sun
reappears. Neither can the storms of life disturb a
person who has a powerful sense of inner peace and
calmness.
Peaceful strength looks beyond temporary defeats and
obstacles. It holds our purpose and passions. It knows
that storms are divinely designed spaces. They can be
resting spaces, faith-building spaces, helping spaces,
or protecting spaces.
Edward G. Bulwer-Lytton (1803 - 1873) wrote, "Power is so characteristically calm, that calmness in
itself has the aspect of strength."
There will always be storms and struggles. Yet
they need not steal our dreams or determination. The
strength of inner peace does not depend upon a clear
sky. It allows us to continue forward with power and
passion in all kinds of weather.
So how can we learn to access this deep peaceful strength?
Simply by allowing a silent time each day to experience
it and reflect on it. In so doing, we can have the
assurance that this powerful gift is always available.
