I discovered an energy-filled thinking spot when I
was seventeen years old. It was a frozen creek bank, deep in an
elm forest. I sat for hours watching the swirling
stream bubble and flow beneath a thin pane of ice.
A thriving young evergreen tree grew amidst the tall,
leafless elms. My entire mood was quite down before
arriving at the forest. Yet I walked home with a
greater sense of warmth and calmness.
To this day, these special places kindle my sense of
wonder. They provide space for imagination and silence.
I've found several more energy-filled places of solitude over the
years. Coincidentally, each has had at least one evergreen tree growing near by.
These thriving evergreens remind me that despite
changes, circumstances, or seasons, our spirits can
remain lively and strong. We can also be evergreens of
faith, hope, and a child-like sense of wonder.
